- 12:00 - Property Care Association - Flood Restoration CPD
-
Venue: Property Care Association
Location: Huntingdon
Cost: FreeProperty professionals are invited to attend a free event where the Property Care Association (PCA) is delivering its new RIBA-approved CPD covering flood restoration.
As well as being of interest to architects, the CPD is aimed at a wide-range of people working in the property sector, including surveyors, construction managers, local authority and social housing professionals, facilities managers and heritage specialists.
The Flood Remediation CPD covers post flood investigations, repair strategies, the recognition and avoidance of problems, as well as the ‘designing in’ of flood resilience.
It is being delivered at the PCA’s Cambridgeshire-based headquarters, located in Lakeview Court, Ermine Business Park, Huntingdon. Taking place on 19 November between 12 noon and 2pm, the event includes a free sandwich lunch.
Noted for its training and technical expertise, the PCA represents the UK’s below ground waterproofing, damp control, timber preservation, structural repair and flood restoration sectors.
It incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA), which has been in formation for more than 75 years.
PCA training is a key role of the trade body and underpins its reputation as a major educational provider. The Association already has a well-established training programme that has operated for decades.
Yasmin Chopin, PCA executive director, said: “The delivery of this CPD offers property professionals a chance to gain some interesting background information to flood restoration and meet other people with an interest in the subject.”
To book a free place email sue@property-care.org or phone 08443 754 301 before Thursday, 12 November.
Recently, the PCA launched a new online resource centre dedicated to improving the repair and recovery of flooded buildings - as well as the protection and resilience of properties under threat from water.
The building maintenance trade body has developed www.property-care.org/flooding in a bid to raise awareness of the specialist work needed to deal with residential, commercial and industrial properties affected by floods.
Viewers online can watch a video on the subject, read news items, find out about PCA member training, and download technical information and case studies relating to real flood restoration projects.
www.property-care.org/flooding has been developed following on from the PCA’s introduction of its Flood Restoration Group, launched last year in a bid to tackle a spate of problematic repairs to flood damaged buildings in areas of the country that sustained severe flooding in 2007.

- 08:30 - Property Solutions (UK) Ltd - Commercial Property Service Charge Seminar : Change We Can All Believe In
-
Venue: Institute of Directors
Location: London
Cost: £339.25 (incl VAT)In the current market conditions, where do service charges appear on the tenants agenda and what is the value of good property management in the relationship between landlords, managing agents and tenants?
According to the 2009 UK Occupier Satisfaction Survey, services charges are the number one gripe of office tenants ; 50% consider that they offer poor value for money and most occupiers are still concerned by the lack of transparency (www.occupier-satisfaction.co.uk).
As a pioneer for change in the commercial property service charge arena, Property Solutions (UK) Ltd is proud to announce its sponsorship of a seminar to be held at the Institute of Directors, 116 Pall Mall, London, on 26th November 2009.
Themed “Change we can all believe in”, this seminar looks to build on the Survey and make recommendations that are workable and progressive for all stakeholders.
The day will kick off with the disclosure of some ground breaking research by London Business School and Kingston University. The former will report on the effect of the credit crunch on service charges and the latter will analyse financial reporting and accounting and tax treatment of service charge. There will, of course, be an update of the now essential Loughborough report.
A broad panel of experts will be presenting their views on the status of the service charge industry and debate what the future holds. Are we moving towards legislation and is this the best way forward ? What are we doing about RICS Code compliance and transparency ? How does this impact the investment performance of leased offices ?
The topics being debated during this packed day will no doubt prove exciting and challenging for all. The interaction between the speakers and the delegates will be key to the success of this seminar.
Eminent speakers include Vivien King (Bond Pearce), Graham Chase (RICS), Christopher Hedley (IPD), Peter Forrester (Savills), Matthew Punshon (The Asset Factor), Chris Edwards (Commercial Property Advisors Ltd), Julian Lyon (General Motors) and others. For more information on this event click here to send an email enquiry
