Crest Nicholson - Retail - Gloucester Docks

Date: 15 Feb 2000

Crest Nicholson Properties has been granted outline planning consent for its comprehensive leisure scheme at Gloucester Docks. This includes a multiplex cinema, health and fitness club, restaurant, retail uses and a hotel.

A revised design for the leisure building will be required but the Government Inspector ruled "that provision of a multiplex cinema at the Docks in association with other leisure facilities is a form of development fully in accord and supported by the Local Plan."

The Government Inspector rejected the City Council's reason for refusing the original application, i.e. that the Docks proposals would jeopardise the regeneration of the Blackfriars area.

Crest Nicholson Properties will be submitting a reserved matters application in due course to enable the leisure scheme to proceed as quickly as possible.
