Savills - General Sale - Taunton, Somerset

Date: 15 Apr 2008

Registered charity Care South, advised by Savills, has purchased Beauchamp House nursing home near Taunton, Somerset, from Beauchamp's Country House Care, for a price in the region of £5 million.

Beauchamp House is a Georgian country house, built in the 18th century, which became Somerset's first private nursing home in 1956. The 40-bed care home also comprises 12 cottages and apartments in its grounds for more independent living, known as Beauchamp Gardens.

Susan Willoughby, chief executive of Care South, comments: "We are very pleased to have acquired Beauchamp House, a beautiful home with excellent accommodation, which will further strengthen our presence in Somerset and extend the service that we already provide throughout Dorset, Somerset and Sussex."

Care South currently has 20 care homes across the south of England and has also recently acquired the RAFA care home in Storrington, West Sussex, also advised by Savills. The charity plans to increase the number of beds at Beauchamp House to 50, as well as reconfigure the internal layout of the home.

Alan Matthews, associate director of Savills, comments: "Beauchamp House is a delightful care home, set in beautiful gardens and will be a real asset to Care South. As one of the leading providers of residential and domiciliary care services in the south, this acquisition is very much in line with the charity's strategic plans for extending its services further."

The vendor was unrepresented.
