Trant Construction - Appointment - Southampton

Date: 04 Aug 2008

Trant Construction has appointed Mike Reed as business development director in a newly-created post.

The specialist construction contractor, which has a directly-employed workforce of 550, is ramping up building projects across the south.

Mike was previously an operations director in charge of petro-chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. He has been with Trant for 19 years.

He said: "This is an exciting opportunity to help grow the business even further as we develop new revenue streams and repeatedly deliver excellence for clients."

Mike added: "We are justifiably proud of our achievements to date, and look forward to continuing future growth, both with our existing long-term clients and by taking new opportunities as they arise."

Trant's building arm has worked on a series of multi-million pound landmark developments that have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the south.

They include the Rose Bowl - home to Hampshire Cricket - and Intech, the award-winning technology centre near Winchester that plays host to curious children each year.

Other local projects have included the Harbour House Casino in Southampton and two business parks near Totton - Hounsdown and Rushington.

Mike's promotion comes as the Trant group marks its 50th anniversary.

The business, with its roots in ground working, was founded on the Waterside, near Southampton, by Phil Trant in 1958.

Trant, which has a projected turnover of £100m and is a member of championing organisation Business Southampton, also scooped the UK construction industry's top prize this year from ROSPA - the Sir George Earle Trophy.

It was awarded the accolade for exemplary health and safety, from sites to management systems, at the Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2008.

The Trant group works in six infrastructure sectors - building, civil, power, petro-chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical and engineering.

Clients read like a who's who of industry and include ExxonMobil, Thames Water, National Grid, Siemens, the Ministry of Defence and the Environment Agency.
