Atisreal - Industrial Sale - Bridgend

Date: 22 Aug 2008

A South Wales company that is expanding on the back of the global oil boom has bought an adjacent workshop and offices on the Village Farm Industrial Estate in Pyle, Bridgend.

Guardian Global Technology Group which was established in 2003, manufactures specialist measurement equipment used in oil field production. Run by engineers Iain Maxted and Suzannah Bourne, Guardian manufactures complex electro-mechanical instrumentation used to measure variables such as pressure, temperature and flow within a wellbore.

The business which received a £5m cash injection from private equity fund Epi-V in April has seen revenues grow by 42% over the last year.

Iain Maxted said: "I am one of the few people who is not too unhappy that oil is trading at $140 per barrel. We currently employ 24 staff but with the addition of these new premises we plan to grow to 75 over the next four years. We now have clients in Canada, North America, Europe, the Middle East and Far East; in fact right around the globe, working both onshore and offshore."

Guardian Global Technology Group has bought the former base of Crest Conservatory Roofing Systems which went into administration in late 2007. It is adjacent to Guardian's purpose built 15,000 sq ft headquarters in Pyle. The business paid £625,000 for the 12,984 sq ft unit. Atisreal advised the administrator.

Maxted said: "We plan to use the ground floor for machine shop space for manufacturing and will build a mezzanine level across 8,000sqft which we will use for the assembly and test of high-temperature electronics."

Atisreal associate director of Industrial Agency and Logistics, Michael Bruce said: "This deal demonstrates that the market is not all gloom and doom. Sadly the current climate is creating victims as the demise of Crest demonstrates, but we should not forget that there are also winners as well. It is fantastic to be able to report a deal which demonstrates a successful Welsh manufacturing company."
