Savills has recruited a development and food retail expert for its out of town retail team.

Andrew Birtwistle, who joins from Kier, has previously worked for Sainsburys, Lidl, Safeway and Aldi. He has over fourteen years experience in the sector with detailed knowledge of the out of town retail arena having undertaken development, portfolio management and town planning guidance in his previous roles. He joins Savills as a director.

Johnny Rowland, head of Savills out of town retail team, says: "The food retail market has soared over the past few years with emphasis on their wider retail offer, making them ideal anchor tenants on high profile out of town schemes. Savills is active in the food retail advisory area, and Andrew's expertise will boost this to the benefit of many of our clients."

Andrew will be based at Savills' headquarters, from Monday 8 September 2008.
