The Harris Partnership - Sheffield

Date: 16 Jun 2009

The first phase of a £4 million city centre scheme, comprising 22,000 sq ft of contemporary residential, retail and restaurant space, has completed in Sheffield.

Award-winning Yorkshire architects, The Harris Partnership, has provided designs for The Point development on Division Street, which offers 27 one-bed apartments, together with 4,000 sq ft of ground floor retail and restaurant space.

As the scheme completes, all 27 crashpad apartments have been pre-let to Sheffield-based Forgetthehotel.com. A further 1,500 sq ft of ground floor retail space is also under offer.

The Harris Partnership is acting on behalf of developer Trafalgar Court Northern, as lead design consultant and project architect on The Point. Paul Mitchell, Managing Director of the Harris Partnership, comments; "We have taken great care when designing the building to ensure it sits well within the contemporary, nightlife-dominated area. Our intention has always been to deliver a modern, striking development, providing convenient city centre living and amenities.

"The development is already creating a real buzz among the younger crowd who frequent the street's existing shops, restaurants and bars and we have no doubt that The Point will contribute further to the leisure offering in this part of the city."

The new building incorporates bold designs with the use of chequered board grey Trespa cladding, contrasted with red rustic brickwork to ensure the development stands out, yet also sits well alongside the neighbouring buildings.

Following significant interest in the fully-let residential space, phase two of The Point, comprising a further 4,000 sq ft of residential space on the first floor, is set to commence later this month. It is anticipated this final stage of development will be complete by November 2009.
