A busy community centre café's kitchen has been given a brand-new look by Lovell.
The company has given a free makeover to the volunteer-run Community Learning Café kitchen at the Keith Thompson Centre in Coronation Mount on the Guardhouse estate, Keighley, Bradford, installing new kitchen units and worktops and new flooring as well as redecorating. Lovell is currently carrying out a refurbishment scheme for 175 homes on the estate as part of its ongoing housing modernisation programme for Bradford-based housing provider Incommunities.
"This has made a big difference," says Alex Brown, chairman of the Keith Thompson Centre. "The kitchen was getting old and tired and we're really grateful to Lovell for what they've done, it's a vast improvement." Open seven mornings a week, the Community Learning Café serves up to 150 breakfasts a day and provides catering work experience and training for volunteers who help run it under the guidance of manager Maxine Snowball.
"Wherever we work, we always look for community projects where we can help out," says Lovell senior site manager Mark Watts. "When Alex from the Keith Thompson Centre asked us to refurbish the kitchen, we were only too pleased to lend a hand. The centre is right at the heart of the community in Guardhouse and the café is a great place to eat, as well as providing training opportunities for people locally."
Ken Nicholson, director of Incommunities - Development and Regeneration, comments: "I am delighted that Lovell - one of our three construction partners - has generously refurbished the community café on the Guardhouse estate. This work will really benefit the whole community and I'm sure everyone who visits the café will appreciate it."
Lovell has been working on Incommunities' modernisation programme at the Guardhouse estate for the past three years carrying out improvement work including rewiring, installing new kitchens and bathrooms and re-roofing. In the latest phase of work at the estate, Lovell is improving 175 properties, carrying out rewiring work, external improvements and replacing kitchens and bathrooms.
