Douglas Duff - Industrial Letting - Milton Keynes, Blakelands
Date: 18 Jun 2002
Douglas Duff is pleased to announce one of the largest warehouse lettings in the region so far this year. A substantial building at Blakelands, Milton Keynes, has been let to department store group John Lewis and will be operated by Gist, one of the UK’s largest specialist logistics operators.
The 33,449 sq m (360,000 sq ft) warehouse became available recently when Volkswagen’s spare parts division in Milton Keynes was relocated to purpose-built premises at Tamworth, Leicestershire.
Having won a major contract to manage part of John Lewis’s supply chain, Gist sought extensive warehouse premises to act as a distribution centre to feed into satellite warehouses located near individual John Lewis department stores nationwide. The Blakelands facility provided the ideal location as well as the capacity Gist was looking for in order to receive, allocate and pick stock for delivery to John Lewis branches around the country.
"With a central position on the national motorway network, Milton Keynes is a popular location with supply chain management companies like Gist" said Robert Shacklock of agents Douglas Duff who marketed the building jointly with Grant & Partners on behalf of Volkswagen Group UK Ltd. Volkswagen’s head office and financial services division will remain in Milton Keynes.
