Date: 03 Jul 2002
Silcock Dawson & Partners – one of the UK’s leading building services consulting engineers – has been appointed to provide mechanical and engineering services to part of P&O Developments’ £100 million landmark regeneration of London’s Kings Cross.
Known as Regent Quarter, the development project will involve substantial regeneration of four key blocks in King’s Cross, offering a mix of housing, retail, and office and leisure facilities. Total area comprises 630,300 sq ft of new and refurbished space on a 5.8 acre site.
Silcock Dawson has been appointed to design and commission M&E and building services for Block B comprising 162,000 sq ft of mixed office, retail, residential and restaurant space, due for completion in Spring 2004.
“The appointment to such a prestigious contract – having worked with the design team from initial concept to planning approval confirms our expertise in projects which demand creative M&E engineering solutions. Our track record of working within strict planning guidelines and delivering sustainable solutions enables us to continue to win major commissions,” explained Silcock Dawson partner Paul Ross.
Situated within a major transport hub, consisting of King’s Cross and St Pancras stations, Regent Quarter aims to become a major regeneration site in the capital.
The blocks extend from Grays Inn Road in the south to Wharfdale Road in the north and bounded by York Way to the east and Caledonian Road/Balfe Street to the west. Pentonville Road, Caledonia Street and Railway Street bisect the development area.
According to Graham Corser, senior development surveyor, P&O Developments: “We have worked hard to gain the support of the local community, conservation groups and English Heritage. This is a historic part of London and our consultants have been selected to ensure that all design aspects – including services – fit the project requirements which include new architecture and refurbishment of Victorian buildings.”
Features of Regent Quarter will include:
Commercial office space from courtyard studios to contemporary HQ office buildings.
A selection of retail units of varying sizes including a metro supermarket.
Leisure and recreational facilities include health club, theatre, restaurants and bars.
100 residential units of varying sizes in a variety of buildings many built within courtyard settings.
New 277 bed Premier Lodge Hotel.
In addition to Silcock Dawson, the Block B design team includes Rolfe Judd (architects), Cadogan Tietz (structural engineers) and Tropus (quantity surveyors).
