Johnson Controls - General Other - New Pan-European Organisation

Date: 23 Jul 2002

Johnson Controls has today released details of plans to develop its business across Europe. This is part of a previously announced programme to align its Facilities Management and Building Systems & Service operations into a single solution focused on the needs of its customers around the world. The move underlines the company’s credentials as a global industry leader.

The reorganisation will bring together all of Johnson Controls’ Controls Group operations across Europe into a single integrated management structure.

The key elements are:
 A central management team to drive consistency of quality and standards across five defined Lines of Business
 Four new European Regions
 European Vice Presidents/Directors heading up the Lines of Business
 Pan-European business development and support functions

As a global business, Johnson Controls believes this is a natural evolution to ensure that European business growth potential is maximised.

“We provide services to millions of square metres of property, with over a 100 offices in 20 European countries,” said George Doig, Johnson Controls’ Vice President Controls Group Europe. “We are managing the facilities for many of the largest organisations in Europe. Increasingly, our customers are expanding their international reach and they are looking to develop cross-border solutions.”

Fundamental to the future delivery of globally consistent standards and processes is a central European Management Team geared specifically to harness the combined knowledge of Johnson Controls. Operating from the new Headquarters building in Brussels, they will manage and drive five defined Lines of Business across Europe, which will be consistent across the Controls Group global operation. The team of industry experts will ensure service levels are consistently delivered across Johnson Controls’ European business and they will be tasked with developing innovation and establishing best practice for the benefit of all customers. The Lines of Business and the team are:

 Service – Patrick Bateman – Vice President
 Installation (Building Management Systems) – Tom Barley – Vice President
 Facility Management Solutions – Mike Friedl – Vice President
 Protective Systems (Security & Fire) – Leif Friestad – Director
 Products – Michel Van-Roozendaal – Director

The team will report into George Doig, who has overall responsibility for all Controls Group operations across Europe.

Also reporting into George Doig are four Regional Vice Presidents who will have responsibility for delivering and managing integrated operations as part of the central management team:

 Central Region – Peter Plenker – Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Eastern Europe and Middle East
 West Region – Guy Holden – UK, Ireland and South Africa
 South Region – Giovanni Frangi – Italy, Spain, South East Mediterranean & Ingest JV
 North Region – Eric Auzepy – France, Belgium, Netherlands and Nordics

“The new pan-European Management team will provide the catalyst for ensuring we deliver consistently across international borders,” said Doig. “What we are putting in place is a management structure that will deliver real benefits to existing and future customers. The key objective under this structure is to drive consistently higher delivery standards across Europe and ensure that best practice knowledge and new workplace thinking are shared for the benefit of our customers. This will be unique in the global building services marketplace,” continued Doig.
