BCSC - General - 2002 Conference
Date: 05 Aug 2002
Belinda Earl, Chief Executive of Debenhams and the The Right Reverend James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool will be among the keynote speakers at the forthcoming BCSC 2002 Conference. The retail property organisation’s 16th Annual Conference and Retail Showcase takes place from 5-7 November at the Manchester International Convention Centre and G-MEX.
The conference, which will be themed “3-D Vision: Customers and Change” will focus on the consumer of the future and what he/she will be doing in 10 year’s time, given the changes in demographics, economics, affluence, technology, working practices and leisure time. As with previous years, it will feature a mix of keynote speeches and practical workshops along with activities, launches, receptions and the Conference Dinner in Retail Showcase.
The conference kicks off on 5 November with the BCSC Golf Competition and study tours in and around the city centre, as well as the opening of Retail Showcase, the premier retail property exhibition. In addition there will be an evening Welcome Party at The Triangle.
Belinda Earl, Chief Executive of Debenhams, will speak on “The Department Store Response to Changing Customer Preferences”. The Bishop of Liverpool will speak on “Social Responsibility and Sustainability”. Other keynote speakers include Howard Bernstein, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council; Dr Richard Barkham, Research Director of Grosvenor; Ralph Ardill, Marketing and Strategic Planning Director of Imagination; Justin King, Business Unit Director – Foods, of Marks & Spencer and Dr. David Lewis, Chairman of the David Lewis Consultancy and author of “The Soul of the New Consumer”.
Comments Jenefer Greenwood of CB Hillier Parker and President of BCSC:
“The retail property sector has already been in the driving seat of urban regeneration. At this conference, BCSC is taking that a step further by looking at social responsibility and sustainability that comes with development and investment.”
Comments BCSC Conference Chairman Sarah-Jane Curtis of Grosvenor:
“This year’s conference promises to take us in new directions and offer both new initiatives and more value for participants. The speaker line-up features leading executives from the retail and property sectors including Belinda Earl, Chief Executive of Debenhams and Justin King, the Business Unit Director – Foods for Marks & Spencer.”
Retail Showcase, which takes place in the adjacent G-MEX, is open for an extra half-day in direct response to requests from conference delegates and is set to feature its largest ever line-up of exhibitors.
Comments Sarah-Jane Curtis:
“This exhibition, which is attracting record early bookings, provides an unparalleled platform for retailers, developers, agents, consultants and advisors to reach interested parties and generate valuable new business contacts. Retail Showcase has become a primary venue of contact for those who want to do business in the retail property industry.”
Unprecedented early demand for exhibition stands at this year’s BCSC Retail Showcase has already resulted in a host of leading retailers, owners, developers and consultants securing more than 8O% of the available space. Retailers such as Uniqlo, Allders, Debehnams, Redcastle, Sainsbury’s, TK Maxx, Marks & Spencer and Rubicon will be joined by owners and developers including Grosvenor, British Land, Lend Lease, Capital Shopping Centres, Hermes, London & Amsterdam, Birmingham Alliance, and Universities Superannuation Scheme. Other ‘early birds’ include consultants and advisors such as Jones Lang LaSalle, Dalgleish, CB Hillier Parker, Drapers Record, DTZ Debenham Tie Leung and FootFall.
