Date: 12 Sep 2002
Screwfix Direct Limited, the UK’s leading mail order and on-line business for the supply of screws, fixings and tools, has appointed Fuller Peiser Logistics, the specialist logistics arm of property consultant Fuller Peiser, as the project manager for its new national distribution centre.
The likely location for its new 40,876 sq m (440,000 sq ft) distribution facility is Stoke Regeneration Limited’s Trentham Lake Development at Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, which lies adjacent to the A50.
Fuller Peiser Logistics is providing consultancy expertise in project management, town planning and acquisition for the development, which will be developed in two phases.
Graham Prisk, partner and head of the logistics sector at Fuller Peiser, said: “This facility is probably the most exciting distribution project currently being designed in the UK. It is both highly mechanised with elements of full automation and is being designed from the inside out.
“The design method will ensure that the facility meets Screwfix Direct Limited’s exact requirements and we are working closely with its operations team and LPC International, the material handling consultant and programme manager, to achieve the best solution.
“We are delighted to be involved in delivering the infrastructure that Screwfix Direct Limited needs to support its future business growth.”
Colin McCarthy, operations director at Screwfix Direct Limited, added: “We have seen significant growth in recent years and were recognised as e-tailor of the year in 2001. We decided to use Fuller Peiser Logistics because of its specific expertise in the distribution sector.
“The development of our new national distribution centre will support our continued growth in the mid-term and we are delighted with the progress that has been made to date towards finalising matters at Trentham Lake.
“The new development is ideally located adjacent to the A50 trunk road in an area which offers close proximity to many of our UK suppliers and parcel carriers. It will also provide jobs for people living in Stoke.”
