National Retail Barometer - Summer 2009
Published: July 2009
Source/Company: Colliers International
Abstract:
Since October 2006, Colliers CRE Research has been monitoring retail vacancy rates across a sample of 15 locations across the UK in order to provide an indication of the current performance of the national retail market and how this has changed over time. The number and floorspace of void units is recorded every six months – in April and October each year.
This is the second publication in our National Retail Barometer series, which runs in parallel with our Central London Retail Health Check series, and our latest analysis highlights the continued impact of the economic downturn on the UK’s shopping centres and high streets, resulting in a significant rise in the proportion of void units and floorspace.
Central London is proving to be more resilient than other retail locations and continues to outperform the wider retail market; however, it, too, has experienced an increase in the void rate at our survey streets.
